Classes at Northern Arizona University are back in session and that means our residents have been making their way back to Flagstaff, AZ for another great semester here at The Standard at Flagstaff. While we hope everyone had an amazing holiday break, we were excited to help kick off NAU Spring 2022 the right way with a variety of residence life events!
On Monday, January 10th, 2022, we started off our Welcome Back Week with a “Charcuterie Board Contest” in our Resident Club Room. This competitive event encouraged everyone to get creative. Each community member had the opportunity to choose from a variety of ingredients ranging from traditional pepperoni and salami to blueberries and chocolate hummus. Once each individual was done with their artistic charcuterie board, we posted each one on our Instagram page for our followers to vote. Out of 32 participants, the winner of this contest was Lola Sophia who received over 400 votes!
Day two of Welcome Back Week, we held “Don’t Fur-Get About It” in our Resident Club Room. Here at The Standard at Flagstaff, we love our furry residents and had to make them part of our Welcome Back Week! The team took a regular study room and turned it into a spectacular photo booth where we had our furry residents come by and take a Polaroid picture. The staff then voted on the best picture and the winner received a $25 PetSmart gift card.
On Wednesday, we held “Resident Massage Day” in one of our large Study Rooms. With the hectic schedule many residents have once they come back from break, we wanted to give them the opportunity to relax for a few minutes. We had a local massage therapist come in for a few hours and provided 15min massages for all 30 residents that RSVP’d their spot.
For day four, we held “Take & Bake” in our Resident Club Room. We set up a variety of cookie and brownie sets along with different recipes and the ingredients needed for each one. This event not only provided basic baking, cooking, and food measurement skills but also satisfied the sweet tooth of our residents and highlighted the convenience of having a full kitchen in your apartment.
Our very last event of Welcome Back Week, we held was Free Food Friday in our Resident Club Room. With previous taco trucks and other food events being a great hit, we just had to spoil our residents with free tacos! We turned the Club Room bar area into a taco bar and had fun, taco-themed decorations as well as chips & salsa, tacos, and other refreshments. This social event highlighted the community atmosphere as well as the fact that we love tacos. We had over 100 residents come down and participate in our social event.
It was an awesome week getting our residents geared up for a successful semester at Northern Arizona University! We love having the opportunity to provide a best-in-class, NAU off-campus housing experience to our residents, and hosting a variety of engaging events is just one of the many ways we strive to accomplish that. From the whole team here at The Standard at Flagstaff, we wish everyone an amazing Spring semester.
